Spring is finally here and it has been lovely to see the sunshine and the children enjoying playing outside.

It has been a very full and exciting week. We had a visit from an Italian illustrator, Alessio Alcini, who led an assembly and answered the children’s questions. Year 5 were also lucky enough to take part in a workshop with him, just in time as they begin illustrating their own picture books.

In Maths, after completing our fractions unit, we have moved on to equivalent fractions and decimals (tenths and hundredths). The children have been using hundred squares to help them represent fractions and decimals. We will continue developing this understanding next week. You can find this week’s maths sheets here: Week 4 Worksheets

In English, the children have been busy editing their drafts by carefully checking spelling, punctuation and capitalisation. Their work is now ready to be published next week, where they will apply all the techniques they have learned, including those from the illustrator workshop. They are very excited to share their finished stories with Year 1.

In Art, Year 5 created relief sculptures using clay in the art room. They explored different techniques to add detail to their work. The sculptures are now drying and will be painted next week.

In Geography, we learned about coastal features, including examples from around the UK and explored the process of coastal erosion.

Thank you to everyone who came to Family Friday. It was wonderful to see the children proudly sharing their learning with you.

Next week is the final week of the Spring term. School will finish at 1:30pm on Friday.

Have a nice weekend,

Year 5 Team
