Kat Bates – The University of Cambridge Primary School is a very special place, one I never thought I’d find in my teaching career. I joined UCPS in September 2017 and it was the best journey I could have embarked on. I currently teach in Year 1 (Bumblebees class) and lead on Outdoor Learning across the school. It’s a dream to work in collaboration with such passionate, creative and reflective practitioners who strive to enhance lifelong learning to so many wonderful children.
I started my teaching career in 2009 after graduating from Canterbury Christ Church University where I studied ‘Primary Education’ and specialised in Early Years and play. I later discovered a love for travelling, exploring the world and learning through new experiences. This passion evolved and soon after I began teaching in Singapore at a Reggio Emilia inspired school where the image of the child was at the heart of everything we did.
In my own time I love to get outdoors, one of my favourite places to be is in the garden, I enjoy walking, yoga, camping, eating out and socialising with friends and family. I continue to fulfil my curiosity about our wonderful world and try to travel at any opportunity.
