Sport at UCPS

Sport and P.E

The University of Cambridge Primary school is committed to the promotion of sport and physical education, with each class taking part in at least two hours of P.E each week.

As well as timetabled PE lessons, all classes take part in the Daily Mile, which has a number of benefits. Active play times are facilitated by adults and there are also a number of extra-curricular opportunities that run throughout the year. These include: hockey, rugby, football, dodgeball, rounders, multi-sports, kung-fu and athletics. A full list of clubs for each half term is available via Wisepay for current parents or please see below.

Thanks to the generosity of adults volunteering their time, last year we had 82% of the school attend an after school sports club.

Current Extra-curricular sporting offer (10th June – 15th July):

KS1 Premier Summer Sports Club

KS1 Premier Athletics Club

KS2 Premier Football Club
KS2 Rounders Club

We are part of the South Cambs School Sports Partnership and aim to attend all of the events available to us. A calendar of these can be viewed here.

Year 4 Mini Olympics

Thames class joined children from all around South Cambridge (46 schools in total, 1600+ children!) for a day of varied sporting fun. We experienced all sorts of sports – some that we hadn’t tried before, like tug-of-war! Thank you to the great organisation from the SCSSP and the sports leaders who made this happen.

Thursday 6th June saw children from Years 4 and 5 attend the annual SCSSP’s Athletics meeting. We took two teams, coming 10th and 15th out of 18 teams. There were some star performances, with two girls winning both their 600m and sprint races.

We are excited to return next year as Year 5’s and 6’s!
