A very big welcome to Year 6!

What a wonderful first week it has been. All the children have settled into the year so beautifully and are taking seriously their role as the new leaders of our school. We are so proud of their maturity, levels of engagement with learning and the courage and perseverance they have shown during the week. We can’t wait for the year ahead!

In Maths, the children have been working superbly both independently and in groups to solve a variety of rather spicy challenges!

We have been reflecting on our school values and the culture that we’d like to create in our classes.

We’ve also enjoyed music, PE and Computing and were excited to find out about our new project: The British Empire. We look forward to doing a deep dive into this next week.

Today, we also reflected on the life of Her Majesty the Queen through an assembly and marked this historic moment as a school by observing a 1 minute silence.

If you haven’t already, please ensure you have read the new policies sent in an email from Dr Biddulph regarding updated expectations about behaviour, uniform and punctuality for Year 5 and 6.

Coming up next week:

  • English: We will introduce the children to a very thought-provoking book…watch this space.
  • Guided Reading: We will start ‘Freedom’ by Catherine Johnson.
  • Maths: We will be learning about place value up to 10 million…plus more extra extra spicy challenges!
  • Project (formerly ‘Topic’): We will introduce the children to a man in history who split opinion and caused quite a stir…

We wish you all a peaceful weekend and look forward to seeing you again on Monday.
