This week we have used a novel material to get our heads around huge distances in space and time: toilet roll!

Children explored the vast span of time – 4.6 billion years – over which life has evolved on Earth. They were shocked to see that how little time humans have been around (a tiny fraction of a sheet out of over 220..!), especially when considering the impact we have had in such a short time.

On Friday, we applied this method to distances in space. This time, the children calculated the scales involved and also did some impressive graph work to go alongside this. Perhaps you could discuss which planet was the outlier in our investigation?

Friday was also a time for reflection as we joined in the nationwide moment of Remembrance.

This week’s maths sheets are here for any consolidation you may wish to do: Au2 W2 Long Multiplication sheets
