It’s… our last half-term… ever!!! There is a lot of excitement and apprehension amongst our year 6s. However, we still have 6 fantastic weeks left, with lots of learning and enrichment to come.

In English, we have begun writing our own spooky stories, building on what we learnt about dystopian literature before half-term. This week we focussed on building suspense and using pathetic fallacy (i.e. nature and the weather) to set the tone and atmosphere of our stories, inspired by the short film “Francis”.

In maths, we returned to our study of algebra, looking first at writing algebraic equations and then substituting.

In guided reading, we are continuing with Mortal Engines. We now at an exciting part of the story, as Katherine unravels the mysteries surrounding MEDUSA within London while Tom and Hester flee from the pursuing Shrike across the out-country.

Our project for this term is Epistemology, which will be delivered via our PRE lessons alongside continuing our study of Islamic thought. This week, we launched the project with a philosophical discussion about whether we can really be certain of anything…

Next week:

In English, we will work on the setting description of our spooky stories and then begin to write them, with a focus on suspense.

In maths, we will be doing project-based learning designed to consolidate the content we have covered throughout the year.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
