This week, we have been delighted to introduce the children to our new topic ‘Humanoids’. The children are already loving it. We have had so many juicy discussions about the ethics and future of robots and are really looking to diving further into this topic over the next few weeks.
In English and Guided Reading, we have been reading ‘I, Robot’ by Isaac Asimov. Looking carefully at the language of this text, we have begun writing our own stories about the relationship between a human and a robot, based in a futuristic urban city. We have been particularly focusing on creating interesting characters, writing rich setting descriptions and using powerful adverbs and adverbial phrases for interest. The children’s writing so far has been mind-blowing and they are doing such a brilliant job of thoughtfully and creatively applying all they have been learning into their writing.
In Maths, we have begun to look at the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages. Take a look: Maths sheets
This half term, we are also starting Spanish lessons as well as introducing the children to ‘Natterhub’ – an online platform which aims to prepare children to be kind and safe on social media: Welcome to Natterhub | Preparing Children to Thrive Online
Next week
- Maths: Working on percentages
- English: Children will be continuing to write their story
Have a lovely weekend,
Year 6 Team
