It has been wonderful to welcome back the children to school this week for the beginning of a new academic year! The children have all settled in amazingly into Year 5 and it has been lovely to see the children enjoying their new year group.
In English this week, we started to explore myths, using a collection of Norse myths by Kevin Crossley-Holland as a stimulus to help us to think about the features of myths in order to begin planning and writing our very own myths.
In Maths, we have begun our unit on place value, focusing on place value to 10,000, 100,000 and 1,000,000. Please see examples of worksheets below:
Independent Worksheets – Place Value (w.c. 11.9)
In PRE, we began our unit on Hinduism, exploring the concept of vegetarianism and having a class discussion on our thought surrounding it.
For those who could not attend the parent briefing, here are the slides: Welcome to Year 5
One of the questions was around changing the curfew on TTRS – Mr Drane has checked this and it will remain at 19:30 each day due to sensible use of electronic devices; there was a question around availability at the weekend and as far as we can see, all of the settings allow this. If this continues to be a problem, please get in touch and we will forward your concerns onto TTRS.
Next week:
English: we will continue to work on myths, planning our very own myth.
Maths: we will be continuing our work on place value.
Project: we will continue focusing on our History project, which is all about the Anglo-Saxons.
Well done to all of the children for a fantastic start to Year 5!
Very best wishes,
The Year 5 Team.
