Year 5 had a brilliant second week of term! Firstly, it has been brilliant to share the progress we have been making this term during learning conversations, so thank you to all parents for your keen engagement with this.

We have now started our Geography project on ‘Explosive Nature’ by learning about the structure of the Earth and different rock types. Next week, we will move on to learning about volcanoes, so it may be interesting to see what you can find out at home through videos, websites and fact books.
In English, we are continuing our work on sentence structure to prepare for our volcano posters. We have worked on building up sentences using conjunctions to add more detail, allowing us to share our ideas in a more sophisticated way. We ended the week by exploring the features of non-fiction texts to support our writing.
In Maths, we have started our multiplication and division unit investigating factors and multiples. Our brilliant times table knowledge has been really useful this week, so keep practicing at home on Times Tables Rockstars! The maths worksheets can be downloaded here Maths Au2 Week 2 sheet.
In STEM, we are continuing our sustainability and climate change unit by focusing on types of energy. I wonder if your child can share any interesting ideas to make our school more sustainable!
For anyone wanting additional practice in reading comprehension, here is a fantastic example to look at: L1-Four-Stories-900.
Next week:
This week, year 5 students were invited to apply for the Play Leader role, giving them the opportunity to support younger children on the playground. If your child has brought an application form home, they will need to return this to school by Monday 18th November.
It is starting to get chillier now, so please ensure that you child has appropriate outdoor PE kit for the winter months including: trainers, joggers, t-shirt, jumper and socks. A warm, waterproof coat is also vital for playtimes as the weather starts to worsen.
Future events: Non-uniform day on Friday 29th November. Please bring a minimum donation of £1 to support the development of our sensory room.

We hope you have an enjoyable and restful weekend.
The Year 5 team.
