Year 5 had an exciting week with a trip to West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village! We had a fantastic day exploring the on site museum, handling special artefacts, running around Anglo-Saxon houses and hearing from an expert all about Anglo-Saxon daily life. The children asked some brilliant questions having had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a period of history which they have been exploring in the first few weeks of term!
On Friday, Year 5 carried out some curious experiments in their STEM lesson as they investigated how to separate mixtures and solutions. From flour and paper clips to coffee and salt water, the children used different equipment and explored different methods to find out what would be the most efficient way to reach their goal. Then they had the opportunity to summarise their findings and compare and contrast the various methods they had used for different mixtures!
Next week:
Swimming continues on Tuesday 27th September. You will need a swim suit, towel and swimming hat. Long hair must be tied back and earrings removed for swimming lessons. It is also recommended that you bring a snack to have on return to school.
Notices:
Please remember to bring in a picture of your family for the classroom family notice boards.
Please ensure all PE kits and swimming kits are labelled.
Home learning:
Apologies for the delay in receiving this information last week – the deadline has been extended to Friday 30th September!
This week we would like you to write a short paragraph about something that you have read this week. It could be a book, recipe, newspaper article or anything! You must include:
- What it was about
- What you learnt from it or enjoyed about it
- An interesting word or phrase that you might use in your writing
- Why you were reading it.
We will use this to create a reading river in our classrooms. Please make sure you complete this and hand in to your class teacher by Friday 30th September.
Have a super weekend!
