We started the week in winter, end it in meteorological spring (although it doesn’t necessarily feel that way), enjoyed pancakes mid week and celebrated our love of reading on world book day. A busy five days!
Our topic, humanoids, has really captured the imagination and triggered interesting discussions in guided reading, imaginative writing in English and creative interpretations through dance. We are looking forward to a robotics demonstration at the start of next week.
We have started a new approach to spellings which focuses on breaking words down by syllables and phonetic sounds. This will really help spell tricky words. Little and often is an effective approach so we plan to spend 10 minutes each day on spellings. Please continue to support your children at home – the year 3/4 and year 5/6 spelling lists are available at:
In maths, our focus shifted to 2D and 3D shapes as well as continuing to embed knowledge of angles. This is supplemented by daily maths, which provides an opportunity to revisit and apply previous mathematical learning, and regular times tables. Please continue to focus on these at home and make use of TTR – work on those that are proving trickiest (commonly 6, 7 and 8).
The children have responded enthusiastically to the introduction of new lessons from Spanish to Natterhub (ICT) and DIALLS to Forest School.
