A week full of learning in Year 5!

In English, we explored how characters develop and how the world around them can be used as a tool to set mood, backstory and motivations, while looking at some clips of the movie “The Impossible” as a frame of reference. The children are all incredible writers, and have really enjoyed the challenge of tying objects to the character’s backstories and giving them interesting and complex motivations.

In Maths, we have concluded our main unit on Addition and Subtractions, and are now moving on to measure, having investigated the relationship between mm, cm, m and km.    Week 5 Maths – Exploring Measure

In STEM, we continued exploring renewable energy, creating our own wind turbine, which we then tested. We also plotted graphs and discussed optimal places to build renewable energy generators, such as places with strong winds or places closes to the equator.

In Guided Reading, we continued our journey through Eerie-on-Sea, discovering that the Malamander Egg might have been taken away, and that the already suspicious Sebastian Eels might be actually plotting with the Boathook Man!

In Spanish, we looked at how to tell the time. Here you can find a cool quiz to test your fluency! https://quizizz.com/admin/quiz/602e874df28a86001c984950/the-time-in-spanish
