What a knowledge filled week in Year 5!

In English, we have started our joint project with history, creating a detailed essay about the unique features of the Maya, like their number system or the way they wrote using glyphs.

In Maths, we have continued looking at fractions, learning about equivalent fractions, using our knowledge of multiples and factors to explore them.

In STEM, we have explored friction and how it can affect a moving object. We used different ramps and materials to check the effects of friction on speed and distance travelled. The children devised some insightful experiments that kept into consideration different variables, showing their understanding of how to work scientifically.

In Guided Reading, we finished our book (There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom) and discussed its ending.

In Project, we explore how the Maya wrote and used their hieroglyphs to write our names, which you can all see on the classes’ windows!

As always, if you want to test your Spanish skills with some fun games, you can go here:

Next Week

  • Reminder that our swimming days are Tuesdays and Fridays, and to bring a swimming kit with goggles, towel and cap. Goggles really help with confidence in the water. (On Friday 16th, there will be no swimming as we will be having our Shakespeare week banquet)
  • Reminder that our PE day is Wednesday, and to bring PE kits.
