We are marching through the term at a rapid pace! With only one more week to go, we are wrapping up many different units of learning. In English, we have been exploring and imitating techniques used in poetry such as alliteration, metaphor and kennings. In STEM, we have been researching new materials and their potential uses. In History, we have been learning about the Viking attack on Lindisfarne in 793CE. We also finished our Guided Reading book on Beowulf’s adventures.

In Maths, we have already concluded our topic on Place Value and have started a new unit on addition and subtraction. This week we learnt about using the inverse to find missing numbers and to check your answers. If you wish to revise this at home, the sheets can be found here:

The Spanish home learning activities can be found here: Y5 WK6

In STEM, we had a lot of fun finding out about new materials. Children researched either ‘Geckel’ or Graphene to find out what they were, who invented them and how they might be used in future. Children wrote some persuasive letters imagining how they might pitch their material to investors. We also had fun creating a chemical reaction and new material of our own!

Next week:

Next week is the last week of this half term. We are really looking forward to celebrating with you the learning we have done on Family Friday. This will be held in the afternoon from 14:30-15:15.

PE kits need to be in school next week until Tuesday 22nd October. After this, they will be sent home for washing.

We will also be completing our Autumn term assessment next week and will discuss progress and outcomes at Learning Conversations, next half term.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

The Year 5 Team.
