A vivid rainbow covered the skies over UCPS at the end of another super week of learning. The atmosphere in Year 5 feels very positive as children begin to reap the rewards of their hard work and learning. Writing is becoming more sophisticated; co-ordination in hockey is improving; understanding of mathematical vocabulary is becoming more secure.

A highlight for Year 5 in the past two weeks has been our writing through drama lessons with Dr. Biddulph. Children have explored the themes in Jemmy Button through dance, freeze-frame and discussion. This has really helped children with characterisation and planning their writing.

In Maths we have been exploring factors, primes, square and cubed numbers. The sheets from this week can be found below:

Thursday resources

The spellings introduced to the children can be found here: week 5 spelling Please continue to rehearse these with your child until they are secure.

We will continue our guided reading for the last week on Darwin’s Dragons. If you would like to pre-read the text with your child, it can be downloaded here: Darwin’s Dragon’s Week 5 Text

Next week is children’s mental health week. We will be doing sessions focusing on self-identity, personal growth and celebrating ourselves. On Friday the children will need to bring an orange top, jumper or hoodie for our diversity photograph.

Wishing you a hope filled weekend.
