Thank you to all pupils, parents and carers for your hard work, support and commitment this half term. We’ve had a great first term in year 5, with lots of learning; progress made and relationships built. We wish you all a happy winter break and look forward to more learning with you in the new year.

Year 5 Team

This week in English, we were inspired by the book Return by Aaron Becker. The children imagined they went through their classroom cupboard door and entered into a new world!

We looked at Roman Numerals in maths, comparing the system to our current Arabic number system – even trying our hand at column addition with Roman Numerals – which was much more tricky and made us appreciate our 0-9 even more!

We explored the question: Is Christmas still a Christian celebration? in R.E., exploring the concept or secular and religious Christmas traditions through the medium of music and Christmas cards.

Next term our topic will be Origin of Species. Our lessons will explore the work of Charles Darwin and look at evolution and inheritance in animals and humans.

English: The first week back is Book Week. We will be off-timetable exploring the world of Hans Christian Anderson!
Guided Reading: Our text for the half term will be Darwin’s Dragons by Lindsay Galvin.
Maths: After book week, we will be spending time multiplying and dividing by 10,100,1000.
Science: Evolution and Inheritance
RE: Hinduism
