What a long and busy term! We think that the children deserve a good rest over the school holidays after a crammed term. This week has been no exception, with TastEd, finishing Malamander (a brilliant book that we have studied in Guided Reading) as well as the tag-rugby tournament and Christmas lunch to top it all off!

We have finished some suspense writing based on The Impossible and the endings were really impressive. We have thought about the feeling we want to leave with the reader at the end of the story. This has been a really useful unit of writing for children to experiment with first person narrative and different viewpoints.
In Maths, we have cemented our understanding of equivalent fractions. We will be continuing with fractions, decimals and mixed numbers after the break. This week’s sheets can be found here: Week 7 sheets
In TastEd, a lesson about food and nutrition, we explored different citrus fruits through the senses of touch and smell. Children were allowed to try them if they wanted to. Interestingly, the limes were the most popular!

Next term:
Spring term will begin on Wednesday 8th December. Please return all PE kits on this day as they will be used the first week back.
Our new Guided Reading book is a contemporary novel called There’s a boy in the girl’s bathroom. There is again the option to purchase this book if you would like to. Children will be bringing home their purchased books at the end of term when the unit is complete.
Finally, we would like to wish you all a very happy holiday and a peaceful and healthy New Year. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2025.
The Year 5 team.
