What a fun filled week we’ve had in Year 5! We ended the week by making amazing parachutes to test air resistance. The children had a great time testing them out!

In English, we started our new unit on “The Highwayman”, looking at the first two stanzas. The children had fun creating a drama from these first two stanzas, getting into character and analising the language.

In Maths, we worked on prime, square and cube numbers and we revised our knowledge of fractions, ready for the up and coming fractions unit.

In STEM, we explored air resistance, looking at how different materials interact with it and block it. We used parachutes as an example, and created our own using different materials, testing them in the playground.

In Project, we looked at the geographical area that the Maya occupied during their time.

In Guided Reading, we continue “There is a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom”

Next Week

  • Reminder that our swimming days are Tuesdays and Fridays, and to bring a swimming kit with goggles, towel and cap. Goggles really help with confidence in the water.
  • Reminder that our PE day is Wednesday, and to bring PE kits.
