Thank you to a reporter in Fuji class who worked overtime to do this for us this week!
This week, we have been painting, mechanising and finalising our overlooked weird but wonderful creatures from our research project that we have been recently doing! Finally having published and finished our animal poems and pop-up books for our spectacular creatures, as explained last week we are using items such as split pins (used as pivots) and stiff card to add the levers and linkages for the amazing pop-up technology. The results for everyone’s pop-up books turned out breathtaking!
This week we have been doing history based on the Silk Road. The Silk Road was not just one road but a network of routes through eastern to western Asia in which people traded common goods such as silk, fabric etc. Year 5 discovered that the approximate length of the Silk Road was a whopping 5,000 miles long!
This week we are exploring more into fractions, we learned improper, proper, unit and non-unit fractions for example converting to the lowest common multiple! We also learned how to do an extra spicy challenge sheet called the “eye of horus.”
This week in P.E, we have been focusing on cricket with a cricket coach by the name of Matt on Wednesday for Fuji and Tuesday for Olympus. Mr Jackson’s P.E session took part on Thursday for Fuji and Olympus at the hall where he planned a captivating Harry Potter quidditch tournament with slytherin getting an outstanding 4 wins winning the quidditch cup!
Important notice:
We will be reading Pax by Sarah Pennypacker for our next Guided Reading text. It’s a beautiful book. Children having their own copy makes such a difference so please do consider purchasing one. We hope to start on Pax before the half term break.
