Amazing first week back in Year 5!

In English, we had a deep exploration of characters and their motivations, focusing on how to show their emotions through different types of language, such as similes, metaphors and “show not tell”. The children really enjoyed this and achieved some incredible character descriptions using deep emotional metaphors.

In Maths, we continued our unit on fractions, finding ways to compare them and exploring the relationships between sets of equivalent fractions.

In STEM, we experimented with flowers and explored their means of reproductions, dissecting a daffodil and create an infographic, detailing every part.

In Guided Reading, we started our new book, “Noor-Un-Nissa-Inayat-Khan”, which is a real story about a woman spy in the Second World War. The children are really enjoying this story.

In Project, we started our new unit on coasts, recapping the continents and comparing them to islands.

As always, if you want to test your Spanish skills with some fun games, you can go here:

Next Week

  • On Thursday 7th March, from 15:30 to 16:00, the school will have a multilingual reading event! Different teachers will be reading stories in 8 different languages. The details will be sent via email, but if you want to check the languages or the rooms they will be in, there will be a poster with everything on each classroom’s window. We look forward to see you next Thursday!
  • Reminder that our swimming days are Tuesdays and Fridays, and to bring a swimming kit with goggles, towel and cap. Goggles really help with confidence in the water.
  • Reminder that our PE day is Wednesday, and to bring PE kits.
