It has been another wonderful week of learning this week in Year 5.

In English this week, we completed our information texts on volcanoes.

In Maths, we have been looking at addition and subtraction strategies, focusing on inverse methods. Please see examples of the Maths worksheets for this week here: Week 4 Maths – Inverse Operations & Multi-Step Problems

For our Project learning in Geography, we have been learning about the parts of volcanoes as well as the different types of volcanoes.

In PE, we have been focusing on our balance skills as well as playing a new team game, ‘Steal the Treasure’.

Reminder for Year 5 children: please ensure that all children have a winter kit that is suitable for their outdoor PE session please.

Next week:

English: we will begin exploring parts of the film ‘The Impossible’, which is a story based on the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. This will help us to write a newspaper article based on this incident.

Please note: this film is a 12A – however, we will only show the children clips from the movie showcasing the natural disaster rather than any mature themes that are present in the film. If you have any questions in regards to this, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Maths: we will be starting a new unit on measurment.

Project: we will continue focusing on our Geography project, Explosive Nature.

Well done to all of the children for another fantastic week in Year 5!

Very best wishes,

The Year 5 Team
