We looked at how to multiply and divide by 10, 100, 1000 this week in maths, moving forwards and backwards over the decimal. We used a place value chart and learned a trick to remember the number of spaces we need to move the numbers on the chart… Move the digits by how many zeros there are on the multiplier or divisor! (e.g. if multiplied or divided by 10, then move one place on the chart. If by 100, then move two places)
W3 Multiplication and Division
Our handwriting focus for this week was practising sloped writing: proportion and spacing: ss. Our spelling words were necessary, pressure, possession, business, amass, excessive.
In Topic, we had an interesting debate over whether evolution and creationism are opposing ideas: yes or no? We looked at the Christian creation story and learned about the Big Bang Theory and compared some of the ways the theories are similar and in what way they contrast. Some interesting ideas that were put forward included:
- Both theories believe that the world was created.
- Both theories explore how animals and people have adapted.
- Evolution is based on tangible scientific proof.
- Creationism is based on religious belief, where proof is measured in a different way.
