Super week in Year 5!

In English, we have continued looking at the features of a newspaper article, focusing on higher level grammatical structures such as parentheses and relative clauses, and we have started planning our feature article on the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami. The pupils have shown incredible writing and determination and have slipped into the role of fantastic reporters.

In Maths, we have explored the different units of measure for distance, weight and time. We have investigated how to use them and in what situations, as well as converting between them. Please find some worksheets here: Week 6 Maths – Measure

In STEM, we have continued our unit on renewable energy, this time looking at the climate zones of the world and how they might be getting affected, as well as discussing the various adaptations the animals have gone through to live there. The pupils really enjoyed exploring the climate zones and have created wonderful informative posters about them.

In Guided Reading, we have continued our journey through Eerie-on-Sea, where we are now at a pivotal point. We have just discovered that Boathook man is, in fact, Captain K. (Mrs Kraken’s grandfather) and that he was the cursed captain of The Leviathan who tried to keep the Malamander egg for himself and failed miserably, thus becoming a wandering entity.
