We have had a great week getting stuck into the story of Beowulf. We thought about the main themes of the story and used drama to explore the plot and main characters. Next week we will be looking more at the character of Beowulf himself and writing some monologues from his perspective.
We have continued our learning in place value this week, particularly looking at place value to 1,000,000 and what happens when bridging through the thousands. Maths sheets can be found here to go over some of these objectives.AUT 1 week 2 Maths Sheets Week 2
In STEM this week we investigated which solids would dissolve in water. We also learnt the scientific terminology of solute, solvent and solution. You could try this experiment with different solvents or at different temperatures at home if you would like to find out more.
Next week:
There is a bank holiday on Monday 19th September. School will not be open on this day.
Swimming starts on Tuesday 20th September for all Year 5 classes. You will need a swim suit, towel and swimming hat. Long hair must be tied back and earrings removed for swimming lessons. It is also recommended that you bring a snack to have on return to school.
On Thursday 22nd September is our trip to West Stow Anglo-Saxon village. This is a whole day trip and so you must bring a packed lunch and water bottle with you (no nuts please). You will need to wear school uniform, suitable covered shoes or wellies and a waterproof coat in case it rains. Some of the trip is outside so we recommend that you dress warmly.
Home learning:
This week we would like you to write a short paragraph about something that you have read this week. It could be a book, recipe, newspaper article or anything! You must include:
- What it was about
- What you learnt from it or enjoyed about it
- An interesting word or phrase that you might use in your writing
- Why you were reading it.
We will use this to create a reading river in our classrooms. Please make sure you complete this and hand in to your class teacher by Wednesday 21st September.
Have a super weekend.
