Year 5 have worked incredibly hard this week and have shown great resilience and courage across their learning. In both English and Art, the children completed their projects and were clearly very proud of the final outcomes. Well done to all of the children in Year 5 for their determination and perseverance.

In Maths, the children demonstrated a good understanding of finding equivalent fractions within 1. Some practice sheets will be available to support learning at home:Maths Week 6

Equivalent fractions

In Art, the children finished their volcano art projects and once again the outcomes are fantastic. You can really see how seriously the children took the process. The range of texture, colour and layering is brilliant, with cotton clouds, ripped paper lava, foil highlights and strong volcano silhouettes all working together. The final pieces look confident, purposeful and properly finished.

In English, the children continued publishing their information texts. They are extremely proud of their completed work and are very much looking forward to our publishing party next week, where all Year 5 children will have the chance to share their information texts with one another.

In Geography, we explored what happens during volcanic eruptions, focusing on pyroclastic flows, the deadliest eruptions and the severity of their impact.

In STEM this week, we investigated different ways to harness energy from nature. We also learned about the impact of climate change by carrying out an investigation into sea level rise and what might happen if the ice caps melt. The children collected data throughout the morning as ice slowly melted and then recorded their results in a line graph. Line graphs are an important part of the Year 5 Maths curriculum. In RSE, we have been learning about what happens to the human body during puberty and the changes that males and females may experience. The children found this topic very interesting and asked some thoughtful and mature questions.

Next week is the final week of term and school will finish at 13:30 on Friday 19th December.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
