Another sunny week!

In English, we published our memoirs and celebrated on Thursday with a lovely ‘Memoir Café’! Children wrapped their work up in a ribbon and shared it outside with the other classes, reading special memories and celebrating some fantastic pieces of work. Next week, we will start our final topic of year 5 – poems!

In Maths, we used language such as parallel and perpendicular, as well as types of angles, to describe and classify quadrilaterals and other polygons. We explored the sum of angles in triangles and quadrilaterals and used this to solve related problems. You can find links to the maths sheets here: Maths sheets pdf# Lesson 2 Game Guess my Quad

In STEM, we continued to learn about the spread of disease, focusing on sneezes and coughs. We learnt that sneezing produces an aerosol (particles of liquid suspended in the air) full of potentially harmful microorganisms which can travel at 100mph! We used this learning to create informational slogans and posters inspired by ‘Catch It, Bin It, Kill It’.

This week in D&T, we developed our cam toy designs further. First, we evaluated our initial designs against our design specification, and used this to pick a design to bring forward to the next stage. Then, we drew these clearly, using labelled diagrams and drawings from different perspectives.

In PRE, we learned about the significance of Diwali for Sikhs (and Diwali’s significance in other religions). We used this festival to raise further discussion points about sharing.

Reminders:

  • Wednesday 2nd is Sports Day. All children should make sure they have their full PE kit (trainers, white T-shirt and dark-coloured bottoms) plus bring plenty of water, sun hats and sun cream. Having a water bottle is essential as we will be running sports day in Eddington playing fields, so there will be limited opportunities for children to return onto site to use the water fountain.
  • Luckily, we have some shady areas in our playground where they were able to cool down. Thank you for encouraging your children to come to school with their water bottles, sun hats, and sun cream. Please continue to support them in coming to school prepared next week if the hot weather continues.

Wishing you a lovely weekend,

The Year 5 Team
