Dear Parents,

This week in English, our Year 4 students have continued developing their expository writing skills. We focused on what an anecdote is and how it can make writing more engaging by adding personal, memorable moments. The children also explored rhetorical questions and quotes, learning how these features help draw in the reader and strengthen their explanations.

In Maths, we worked on the “same difference” method for subtraction. This strategy encourages flexible thinking by adjusting both numbers in a subtraction problem while keeping the difference the same. The children have enjoyed practising this and are becoming more confident in choosing efficient methods.

Our Science lessons have been hands-on and exciting. We began an investigation into decomposition by burying a banana in soil. The class made thoughtful predictions about what might happen, and we look forward to observing the changes next week.

This week also marked our first Forest School session. The children had a wonderful time outdoors building dens, working as teams, and exploring nature in a practical, creative way.

In Art, we added colour to our Ancient Greek pottery designs. The students took great care painting their patterns and symbols, inspired by real Greek artefacts.
