Another week full of learning in year 4!
We continued our journey into Ancient Greece, discovering what happened in the Archaic Era. Did you know that the very first Olympic games was in 776BC? We found out that there were lots of tyrants during this era and we judged whether we thought they were all good leaders or not.
In English we have continued the story of Odyssey, looking at the difficult decisions Odysseus had to make. We considered what a dilemma would be for a character in a story and created our own.
Maths has seen us ‘bridging 1000’ with equations such as 800 + 700. We used two different methods for this. The first is to make 1000 first and add what is left over and the second was to use facts we know e.g. 8 +7 =15 so 800 + 700 = 1500. Please see some practice learning here: Maths Week 3
STEM has been a bit gruesome this week looking at the digestive system but we have loved it! We had a particular focus on vitamins and learnt about why we need them and where we get them from.
Spelling this week saw us looking at the ‘ea’ spelling making different sounds in words. For example, we found that in ‘breathe’ it makes the /ee/ sound but in ‘break’ it makes the /ae/ sound.
