Yet again, another busy and productive week in year 4!
In English we started to read our new text ‘Queen of Darkness’ which is a historical fiction book about Queen Boudica during the Roman times. We submersed ourselves into Roman age Britain and then ended the week using subversive techniques in our writing. We were led to believe by the author that a character in chapter 2 named Garwen was quiet and potentially quite weak but she surprised us by actually being a guard to Queen Boudica. This inspired us to re-write the tale of the Billy Goats Gruff and make the troll seem viscious, but, in reality he was kind and shy.
We have explored the times-tables up to 12x in maths this week and learnt about how the multiplications are created and any rules we could discover. This will be really useful learning for us as we try to improve our speed and accuracy when learning them going forward. Please find the maths sheets from this week here: Spring 1 Week 2 Maths sheets – 7x, 11x, 12x
Guided reading has seen us get to the end of chapter 8 of the Last Bear. Please find the next three chapters to pre-read with your child here: Week 3 – Chapters 9, 10 and 11
We are really getting into our new project about the Romans! This week we learnt all about what toys, education and family life was like in Ancient Rome.
