Another incredible week in Year 4, everyone tried their hardest and created some incredible pieces of work!

In English, we continued preparing our presentations about the Mesozoic and focused on editing and improving our non-fiction texts. We looked at how to engage the reader and creating a piece of writing that flows naturally by using conjunctions, adjectives and rhetorical questions. In Maths, we have explored both the expanded and compact methods for multiplication, applying them to multiplications of 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. In Geography, we introduced and studied deforestation and its causes. The children were all extremely informed and eager to solve the issue, and they had a great time thinking of things everyone could do to stop deforestation. In Science, we learned how to use thermometers and explored how the temperature of a liquid can change over time.

Maths and Spelling

Please find the Maths learning for this week here: Spring 2 Week 5 Maths

In Spelling we have been focusing on the different sounds the grapheme <a> can have. We looked at the /a/ sound as in Lamp, the /o/ sound as in Wand and the /ae/ sound as in able.

Next Week:

English: we are going to finish our non-fiction texts and present our knowledge and findings to Year 6.

Maths: we are going to look at different methods of division and how divisions can be solved using grouping and sharing.

Science: we are going to conduct an experiment to measure the weight of a gas.

Geography: we are going to finish our deforestation posters and we will be putting them around the school to help inform everyone about what they can do to help.
