Our English lessons this week were inspired by a story called Rain Before Rainbows, all about a girl and her pet Fox who go on an adventure together. The story is full of inspirational messages, and leaves room for imagination about what happens on their journey. Year 4 filled the games this week, but writing out the story as an adventure narrative; describing who the girl was and why she’d left her home, then detailing the adventures and different characters that she encountered along the way. Our grammar focus was expanded noun phrases.

In maths, we firstly revised the different angles. A right angle is an angle that measures 90˚ (degrees). A right angle is represented by a small square inside the angle. An acute angle is one that measures less than 90˚.An obtuse angle is one that measures between 90˚ and 180˚. A reflex angle is an angle that measures between 180˚ and 360˚.
After angles, we were introduced to symmetry. Something is symmetrical when it is the same on both sides. A shape has symmetry if a central dividing line (a mirror line) can be drawn on it, to show that both sides of the shape are exactly the same.

This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week. We discussed how amazing our world is because of the people in it and how they see things differently, such as those with ADHD, dyslexia, autism and dyspraxia. We made links to well-known people, such as Greta Thunberg who has autism and ADHD, and talked about how we’re born a certain way and no one should be teased or made fun of because of the way they think. Please find below the powerpoint we went through and some examples of posters that were created:
