We have been fully in the swing of learning this week, with mirror investigations, myth writing, fractions and painting puppet theatres.
In English this week we have continued our work on myths; considering how we can innovate the story of Perseus and Medusa to give it our own twist. We began by boxing up our altered stories, then used story maps to help us plan how we may write this out in full. To finish, we wrote our newly created myths and considered how we could edit these to ensure our work was fully polished.
This week in spelling we looked at the ‘ue’ sound. The list of spelling words related to this are here: Spelling words
In Maths this week, we began to look at fractions. To start, we consolidated our previous fractions knowledge and then looked at how repeated addition and multiplication of fractions can represent the same fraction. We then continued this by multiplying fractions both within a whole and greater than a whole. To finish, we used a problem solving lesson to begin looking at improper fractions and mixed numbers – we will continue this next week. Here are the Maths sheets for this week: Maths Sheets Week 4
This week in Science was all about reflections. We started the lesson securing our knowledge about how light travels and reflects and the surfaces that reflect light most effectively. We then used a series of mirror related investigations to think about how reflections are made. To finish, each of the children created an information in their books about how light travelled and reflects.
In topic this week we looked at timelines and how we can use this to place important moments in history. We then used this to look at significant figures in shadow puppetry across the centuries. We also began creating our puppet theatres with each class painting their boxes. Next week, we will continue to create our theatres and develop our shows.
