This week in Year 4, we have been working hard across all our subjects and are very proud of the children’s efforts.

In English, we have been focusing on revising our character-driven short stories. The children have been developing their writing by improving their use of dialogue to show character interactions more clearly. We have also explored expanded noun phrases to add detail and description, as well as selecting more interesting and precise verbs to make their writing more engaging for the reader. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and confidence growing.

In Maths, our focus has been on division. We began by breaking division down using place value charts to help the children understand how numbers are partitioned. Following this, we introduced the short division method, also known as the bus stop method. The children practised this both with and without remainders, and many have shown great progress in their understanding. Maths sheets from this week will be available if your child would like some extra practice at home.

In Geography, we completed our final lesson, “Walking in Someone Else’s Shoes.” This lesson focused on empathy, as we explored the experiences of a refugee who has had to flee their country due to difficult circumstances. The children thoughtfully discussed what it might feel like to move to a new country and the challenges that may come with this.

We hope you have a lovely, restful holiday break, and we wish everyone celebrating a very Happy Easter!
