This has been yet another busy week for Year 4.
We have continued looking at the journeys and experiences of refugees across English this week. We were extremely fortunate to have an online assembly with a refugee, where the children were able to listen to his story and ask questions about his journey to the UK. The children then looked at newspaper headlines and considered how they felt reading these and exploring what the purpose of newspapers should be.
During Maths we have continued our work on subtraction, considering the different techniques we can use to calculate and check our answers in the most efficient way possible. This week’s Maths worksheets are linked here Maths Worksheets W2
The children had another great week in Forest School where they continued to develop their skills in knot tying, identifying hazards and creating maps.
As the weather gets colder it is important each child has appropriate clothing for their forest school sessions; these need to be brought in on the following days:
Monday – Nile
Tuesday – Thames
Friday – Amazon
This term we have started a new computing unit where the children are working in pairs to create a story through coding. This is designed to improve both computing and oracy skills and has been a huge hit with the children so far!

On the 13th November it is World Kindness Day and starting on Monday 15th is Anti-Bullying week. We will be talking about how we all have a role to play to make a kind world through small acts of kindness. We will be focusing on how to spread kindness through words and prevent bullying at our school. Here are some discussion prompts for you at home:
- Can you think of a small act of kindness you have done for somebody else, or that somebody has done for you this week? How did you feel?
- Can you imagine a world where everybody chooses to act with kindness? What does this world look like? How do people act? How do people feel? What do people say?
- Read this quote ‘Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world’ – Desmond Tutu. What does Desmond Tutu suggest will change the world? – What would happen if everybody in the world did a small act of kindness where they are? – What small acts of kindness could you do to help create a kinder world?
