We have had a busy few weeks back to school. In the first week, our main focus was assessments including arithmetic, reading and grammar. This week, we have been immersing ourselves into the term proper, with introductions into our PRE-led project, as well as some fun STEM lessons.

In STEM, we have been learning about the 7 processes of all living things. They can be remembered with the mnemonic MRS NERG:

Move

Respire

Sensitive to environment

Nutrition

Excretion

Reproduction

Growth

We have also been collecting data about the living things found in our environment. We looked at several micro-habitats to see what creatures might be living there.

All the classes also had a chance to plant runner beans in the allotment and dig up potatoes! It was really fun to see what is growing.

In other subjects, we have started a new unit of learning on fractions. We have been understanding the whole, partitioning and multiplying fractions. Our worksheets from this week are available to download here: Maths W2 – Fractions

We also completed the Times Table fluency test this week. All the children have been practising hard for this and did really well.

In English, we have started a new book called ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’. It is a wonderful picture book based on Norse myths and legends and in the style of a myth. We will use it in future to imitate the narrative style of myths as well as write some of our own.

Next week:

Please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in school. Some children have not had correct footwear, which may mean that they are not able to participate.

PIP review meetings will begin to take place with class teachers next week.

We wish you all a very happy (and sunny) weekend!
