We have had an amazing week in Year 4! It was incredible to see everyone so determined to learn even when the heatwave hit us! From new Maths concepts to Science rap, we have given it our all and we are ready to tackle the next month with courage and positivity.
This week in English, we continue to read “Arthur and the Golden Rope” and explored how to write an action sequence. To do this, we looked at Arthur’s journey and all the perils he encounters. We wrote about Arthur’s fight with a kraken, his journey through dangerous rock formations and even his encounter with pirates!
In Maths, we concluded our look at coordinates and translations and started our journey through fractions. We started to look at how to multiply fractions by whole numbers ad we will continue looking at fractions and how they relate to mixed numbers.
In Guided Reading, we continue reading The Land of Roar and looked at story details that might evolve in the future and how to write an effective character description.
In STEM, we looked at the skeleton and its function, as well as defining vertebrates and invertebrates. We used this knowledge to create a song about our skeleton, which helped us learn the different bone names!
In PRE, we explored the concepts of “good” and “bad” and what it might be exactly that makes a choice “good” or “bad”. We had an interesting discussion and deeply explored the meaning of “good” and “bad”.
These are some of the questions we discussed in PRE, feel free to use them as conversation starters:
- If you won’t be found out, should you do whatever you like?
- Are we only good because we’re scared of being punished?
- Are we only good because we want to be praised?
- How would you feel if you acted badly without punishment?
- How would you feel if you acted well without praise?
- Is a good person someone who is never punished or always praised?
- Is a good person someone who follows the rules?
- Is a good person someone who does good acts?
- Is a good person someone who has good thoughts?
- What is a good rule?
- What is a good act?
- What are good thoughts?
Guided Reading: we are continuing to read ‘The land of Roar”. Next week we are reading Chapters 29-34. Find a PDF copy of the book here: https://online.flipbuilder.com/fdyv/brbc/index.html.
