This week was Arts Week, and what a week! The children have had such an amazing time learning about the Russian ballet ‘The Firebird’ and the composor, Igor Stravinsky. We came off the usual weekly timetable to study the story of the Firebird and use it to inspire our own drama, dance, music and creative writing.

The week ended with the whole school joining in a parade around the learning streets in their finished firebird masks and an incredible display of colour and talent in the arena.

Next week

Next week we will resume the usual curriculum. We begin a unit on mental strategies for addition and subtraction and we will move on to written methods. The link below leads to a website where you can download maths worksheets which include a mix of mental and written calculations. There are 4 levels of increasing difficulty and each level has 5 questions.

PE will resume next week. All classes have PE on a Tuesday. Please ensure that your child has appropriate footwear and warm clothes for outdoor PE.

We will also start our new Geography project on Biomes. We are really looking forward to this unit. For some background information, have a look at the BBC website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z849q6f/articles/zvsp92p

Home learning

Our home learning policy expects children to:

  • Read for 25 mins every day
  • Practice TT Rockstars for 10 mins a day
  • Practice spelling list for Year 4 (found here)

In addition to this, we publish on the blog the Maths worksheets that were used in lessons this week so that children can revise their learning or complete any challenges that they did not manage to do in the lesson.

We also publish the First News reading comprehension, which are super for using retrieval skills when reading.  If you wish to complete the First News comprehension for this week, you can download them here: L1-Four-Stories-907

Well done Year 4 for an amazing week of hard work. We hope you have a safe and happy weekend.

The Year 4 Team.
