We have had an extra special week, with our Year 4 residential trip to Caythorpe. Many of you saw all of our adventures via our Twitter feed. Activities included Climbing, Jacobs Ladder, Trapeze, The Giant Swing, Orienteering, Raft Building and Buggy Building. All of the children showed immense courage and teamwork to complete activities and conquer their fears. It was wonderful to spend time with all of the children and watch them have such a wonderful time.
On Thursday, we spent the day reflecting on our time at Caythorpe and what we have learnt from our experiences. It began with a circle time where we considered questions such as ‘What was your favourite moment’ and ‘What are you most proud of?’. Reported highlights of the trip included; the food, spending time with new people, being in a room with our friends and of course all of the activities. Following this, each child wrote a written reflection about their trip. To finish, each child made a creative response to the trip – this included posters, comic strips, stories and information leaflets.
On Friday we had our STEM morning where the children started their first lesson on light. We began by looking at how light travels by using holes in boxes to identify the objects that we could see. Children then completed a range of investigations that demonstrated how light is formed. We learnt that light travels in straight line and that it is made up of a spectrum of colours.
To finish the week we had our second lesson looking at shadow puppetry. This week we looked at Wyang Kulit – a traditional form of shadow puppetry often seen in Indonesia. The lesson began by looking at the history of Wyang Kulit and then the children considered why it was no longer very popular, using different sources of information to form opinions.
