We had a very positive week in year 4! We continued our school books and we are now getting to the ending of both our English and Guided Reading!

In English, we continued reading “The Boy at the Back of the Class”. We read chapter 18 and we used this to explore different characters and how to write both formally and informally, which resulted in some great pieces of work from the pupils, who really enjoyed trying to change their writing styles.

In Maths, we started exploring decimals by looking at how tenths add up to make whole numbers. We also started counting in decimals from 0 to 10, going in 0.1 increments. The pupils really enjoyed this and were all very inquisitive about fractions and decimals. P;ease find our learning from the week here: Maths week 5

In Science, we checked what happened to the banana peels experiment, and we concluded that the peel that had soil decomposed faster due to all the bacteria and decomposers present in the soil. Afterwards, we started exploring climate change by investigating the great barrier reef and how even a small change in temperature can have disastrous consequences.

In Art, we tried to create posters to spread awareness about refugees without using many words. This was a great challenge and really pushed the pupils’ creativity.

In Guided Reading, we read chapters 17 and 18 of Cogheart. We navigated many plot twists and had a great time theorising and predicting how the book might conclude.
