English
This week we started a new book called “The Adventures of Beekle, an unimaginary friend”. The children loved their introduction to this sweet book all about friendship. We drew and discussed imaginary friends and then learnt more about some of the characters in the story. You can listen to Dan Santat, the author, read his story here.
Maths
We are in our final week of fractions, before we move on to geometry next week. This week, we have begun to place fractions on a number line, comparing and analysing different ways we can build a ‘whole’ out of various fractions. The children used water and measuring jugs to work out the equal measurements each child would need to pour to get our final result! We continued to use the terms ‘numerator’ and ‘denominator’ to describe unit fractions, as well as equivalent fractions. To consolidate this learning the maths sheets are available here: Su2 W1 Maths
STEM
This week the children reviewed our previous knowledge of electrical circuits. We made exciting ‘electrical safety’ quizzes, making sure that our questions were interesting and challenging! We had a thrilling time quizzing other teams and it was lovely to see the children display such fantastic teamwork.
Next week:
Guided Reading: We will continue to enjoy the adventures of Varjak Paw from chapter 14 until the end of chapter 15. You can read ahead and review the story so far here: Y3 Sum1 W2 GUIDED READING
English: we will continue to explore the characters in “The adventures of Beekle, an unimaginary friend” comparing differences and similarities of characters and thinking about what makes a good friend.
Maths: We will start our unit in Geometry, starting off with identifying and drawing lines of symmetry in shapes. We will also be learning and applying vocabulary such as “horizontal lines”, “vertical lines”, “parallel lines”, “perpendicular lines” and “angles”: Y3 Sum2 W2 MATHS
STEM: Next week, we will build on our understanding of simple circuits to learn about the difference betweenserial and parallel circuits. For a quick overview of this, click here: BBC Bitesize

SUN PROTECTION – now the better weather has definitely arrived, please can children remember to bring a sun hat and sun protection cream to school with them or apply before the school day, as well as their water bottles.
