We were so excited to welcome the children back to school after such a long time away. It has been a fantastic start to Year 3, with all pupils living out our school values during this first week back. We started the week by getting to know everyone in our new classes through circle time, games and activities linked to our school values: respect, courage, trust, gratitude and empathy.

We explored what it meant to trust each other and how to show that we are trustworthy individuals. We also spent some time discussing who we should and shouldn’t trust online. Internet safety will feature in all our ICT lessons this year, and if you would like to discuss these themes at home there are some useful websites listed below:

We used the story of The Tunnel by Anthony Browne as a stimulus for our writing showcase this week. We particularly focused on using amazing adjectives to describe the magical world on the other side of the tunnel.

NEXT WEEK

In Year 3, children are no longer provided fruit snacks in school. If you wish to provide a snack for your child, please ensure that they come to school with fruit or vegetables to eat during morning break.

PE lessons

PE lessons will begin next week. Children will need to bring indoor and outdoor PE clothing and training shoes suitable for running. As the weather is getting colder, please provide warm outdoor PE clothing for the winter months.

PE days:

Maple – Tuesdays and Thursdays

Oak – Wednesdays and Thursdays

Redwood – Mondays and Wednesdays

Reading books

We are aiming to change reading books next week so that all children have a book that is suitable for their reading level. Please make a note in your child’s reading records if you notice that their current book band is not offering the appropriate level of challenge, so we can consider changing it.

Maths – We will be learning about place value in 2 and 3 digit numbers and looking at different ways to represent this.

English and Guided Reading – We will  be using a rendition of Homer’s The Iiad and immersing ourselves in the story through active storytelling.

We are really looking forward to diving into our topic of Ancient Greece next week. Well done for a great start to this year.
