It has been a packed week this week. Year 3 have squeezed so much learning into the shorter week! A particular highlight of the week was script-writing and recording a video message about fast fashion. Each group used the knowledge they had gained over the last few weeks and worked on their presentation skills to create a message about sustainable fashion. Many of the children were very passionate in their presentations and demonstrated excellent teamwork.

One of their solutions for fast fashion that the children suggested was to tailor their old clothes into new ones. We wanted to give them the skills to do this, so in Art, the children started learning how to sew with a needle and thread. They practiced lots of textiles skills such as pinning, threading needles, sewing with a running stitch and sewing on a button. Their teachers were very impressed with how quickly they picked up these tricky skills.

In Maths, Year 3 have been learning about creating different wholes out of equal parts, as a foundation learning about fractions. The children have completed some excellent journaling in their Maths books to demonstrate their knowledge of equal parts. We will soon be moving on to unit fractions, therefore continuing to rehearse the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 x tables at home will really support them in their learning at school.

In Science we are continuing to learn about humans and other animals by studying teeth, diet and food chains. They will also be learning about the human digestive system and the incredible internal journey that our food goes on!

Next week

English – we will be starting a new unit based on ‘Bill’s New Frock’ by Anne Fine.

Maths – we will start learning now to recognise and write unit fractions.

Have a super weekend!
