We have had another great week of learning this week and are enjoying the warmer, sunnier days. However, our climate project has taught us that climate change is having an impact on our local climate, so we created rain gauges in geography to investigate rainfall in our area.

In English, we pretended that we were Ernest Shackleton and wrote speeches to persuade people to want to join our expedition to Antarctica. The speeches are looking fantastic and we can’t wait to finish and perform them next week! In maths, we continued learning about multiplying a two-digit number by a one-digit number, which focused on journaling opportunities to ensure we were able to understand the different methods to display and solve problems. In STEM, we learnt about the connection between muscles, lungs and breathing, and we investigated whether people who exercise more have a larger lung capacity.

Maths and spelling

For maths, we explored problem solving through journaling individually and in groups.

In Spelling, we have been focusing on more spellings of the /ae/ sound. We have looked at eight different spellings of this sound – < ai ay ea a-e a ei ey eigh >. Some words to practice are: weigh, whey, graze and neighbour.

Next Week

English: We are finishing our persuasive speeches as Shackleton, persuading people to join our expedition. We will write our conclusions then publish and perform these.

Maths: We are starting to learn about length and perimeter.

Science: We will be summarising our learning about diet, nutrition, the human skeleton and muscles.

Guided Reading: We are continuing to read The Wild Robot, focusing on prediction and characters. A copy of the relevant reading can be found here: The Wild Robot pdf
