Wow – we cannot believe we have already completed the first week of this half term, and it has gotten off the a cracking start!
In maths, we looked at division we explored different division stories to help us understand how to divide a range of different numbers. We also explored how Cuisenaire rods can help us to represent division in a visual way.
In English this week we have been focusing on performance poetry. Each class has been practising a different poem, which we performed for the rest of Year 3 and 4 on Friday afternoon in a celebration assembly! We focused on the importance of projection and diction as well as how to use our voice and body language to portray different meanings and emotions.
In STEM this half term we will be looking at forces and magnets. This week we explored what it means to conduct a ‘fair test’ and how we can ensure that only one factor is changing in our investigations. We tested how much force a toy car would need move when pulled, we tested a range of different surfaces including wood, sandpaper and carpet. We had to use rulers to measure accurately and found that wood was the surface which needed the least force for the car to move.
This term in Physical Education are focusing on dance this half term. This week we looked at moving in different ways and working in small groups to create our own short dance phrases. Watch an example dance here: IMG_4070[1]
Also on Thursdays we will be doing cricket with an external coach! This Thursday we learnt all about bowling and catching a cricket ball. Next week we are going to be looking at batting.

In English, we will be looking at narratives that involve portals. We will be exploring a range of portal stories and identifying the features in preparation for writing our own in a few weeks time.
In maths, we will be looking at multiplying a two digit number by a one digit number e.g. 24 x 4 =
In guided reading, we will be continuing with A series of Unfortunate Events. We will be reading Chapter 9.
