Not only did we continue our work on compound sentences this week, but we also moved into descriptive writing using expanded noun phrases and time conjunctions. We read more of our story – Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx by Joe Todd-Stanton – and predicted what Marcy would do to capture the magical eye from the God Ra, before describing what we imagined the tomb Marcy discovered to look like.
We learned about lower and upper Egypt during project, and the hierarchy of ancient Egyptian society.
Perhaps your child could tell you about the different coloured crowns the pharaohs wore: and what colour it became once the regions were united?
In maths we looked at previous and next multiples of 10 and 100. For instance, if the number is 64 the previous multiple of 10 is 60, and the next is 70; in 578 the previous multiple of 10 would be 570, the next 580. In hundreds, if the number is 986, the previous 100 is 900 and the next is 1000. Essentially, doing the reverse of placing numbers on a number line that’s in steps of 10 or 100.
