English
This week in English, we began focusing on ‘Umbrella’ by Elena Arevalo Melville, a beautiful picture book about a magical umbrella that helps people. We used role play and drama to analyse the actions of characters and learnt about how to use possessive apostrophes. Information about possessive apostrophes can be found here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvwwxnb/articles/zx9ydxs
Maths
We began our unit on adding and subtracting fractions. We learnt about adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator, followed by understanding the inverse of adding and subtracting fractions. To consolidate learning, the worksheets from this week can be found here: Y3 SUM2 W4 Maths Worksheets
Guided Reading
We continued to enjoy the adventures of Varjak Paw from chapter 21 until the end of chapter 26. We predicted what might happen next after Varjak decided to fight Razor back and created role plays about times in the story when Varjak was feeling different emotions.
STEM
This week in STEM, we built on our knowledge of conductors and insulators and explored why different materials conduct electricity, as well as exploring the idea of resistance. We also learnt how to draw a table to present and sort our findings accurately and clearly.
PRE
In PRE (philosophy, religion and ethics), we compared Hindu and Christian beliefs in the afterlife. We learnt about reincarnation and its connection to Karma, as well as discussing the Christian belief in heaven. We then had great discussions about the differences and similarities between these two beliefs.
Art
In art, we have been learning about different drawing skills. We have learnt about perspective and continuous line drawing, which have been great fun!
Next week:
