This week the whole of UCPS has been thinking about healthy living, with a particular focus on exercise. Each class in Year 3 has taken on the daily mile challenge to see how many miles we could accumulate during the week. It has been great to go outside and exercise – it helps to wake up our brains and bodies and we find it much easier to focus. Some children have set themselves personal goals to aim for and have even been doing some practice at home! The week ended with a whole school virtual running assembly which was a lot of fun. We are proud of the effort that everyone put in – well done!

In English, we have been creating non-chronological reports about an imaginary Ancient Greek god. The children have invented their own character and created a backstory for it, as well as creating some beautiful collages to go with them.

In Guided Reading, we have studied Athena and the Olive tree. The skills we were using in our reading included inferring a character’s feelings, understanding vocabulary and understanding how an author uses language. The children have really enjoyed acting out our Guided Reading stories through active storytelling.

In Maths we have been learning about vertical, horizontal, parallel and perpendicular lines as well as lines of symmetry. They are everywhere! During half term you might want to go on a line spotting walk to see how many you can see…

If you wish to revisit the worksheets, you can find them here:

Next term

Next term our topic is ‘Power and Invasion’ and we will be looking especially at the roots of racism and how we can combat it. Some particularly good texts you may wish to explore are below.

Our Guided Reading text for the week after half term is the Ramayana – an ancient Sanskrit epic poem detailing the story of Rama and Sita.

We wish you all a very restful, safe and enjoyable half term and look forward to seeing you again after the half term break!
