Year 3 have had an absolutely spectacular Arts week. We have been inspired by Jacob Collier’s songĀ Hajanga and have used the themes as a springboard for all sorts of creative work. We have particularly focused on the themes of light and dark within this song.

We began the week exploring many examples of poetry with the theme of light or darkness. The children responded to a poem of their choice through art, creating their own images using pastel and water colour paint. We then continued to explore this theme by creating some blackout poetry. The children were given some pages from old books and with the existing text they had to choose words to construct their own poem, whilst blacking out the rest of the text. The results were very effective!

We have also had the privilege of working with a professional dancer, Robyn, who has led the children in daily dance workshops. Throughout the week, the children’s focus and collaboration increased noticeably. They learnt new ways to move around the space which were visually exciting as well as experimenting with dynamics and levels. Their teachers have been very impressed with their progress.

NEXT WEEK

Sports day – Wednesday 30th June

Please ensure that your child has a PE kit with trainers, a hat and sun protection and a water bottle. Year 3 will be competing in sports day in the afternoon. Unfortunately, due to current COVID restrictions, we are not able to invite parents to spectate this year.

Morning Drop-off

It has come to our attention that some children are being dropped off outside the school gates and are walking to the classroom by themselves. In the interest of safety, we kindly request that you accompany children in Year 3 to the classroom door.
