Firstly, a huge welcome back to Redwood Class! We missed you last week and are so happy for your return!
This week has been full of deep thinking. In our English sessions, we have been developing our own plotline, innovating the storyline from ‘Bill’s New Frock’ and using this as inspiration for our own. The children had to imagine that Bill finds a new item of clothing that allows him to do something he couldn’t do before. Of course, every good story has a problem! We then delved into the negative impact that this positive gain might have to take children deeper in their thinking. For example, one child decided that Bill could find a hat that suddenly made him never feel sad. We had some rich discussions about the downsides of this. If we never feel sad, we may be unable show empathy or feel upset about injustices. Feeling sad is a normal human emotion and it is important that we are able to express this.
In Maths, we have been continuing our learning on fractions, representing fractions in different ways and exploring unit fractions.
We have shown tremendous perseverance and determination in our Art sessions this week as we have been practicing sewing outfits for our puppets! They are starting to look rather fabulous!
In Forest School, we had great fun! Some of us whittled for the first time, while others enjoyed creating a dream garden out of natural materials.
Coming up next week:
- Next week, for our last topic lesson, we will be learning about clothes from all around the world. It would be lovely for some children to share their traditional clothes. Therefore, if the children have any traditional clothes or a picture of them wearing it please could they bring them in to share with the class.
Have a great weekend everyone!
