This week’s learning in Year 3:

Our new project is biomes. In geography, we learnt about the main types of biomes around the world and their features.

English: We have been focusing on the past tense this week and learning about regular and irregular past tense verbs. We watched two very fun videos to help us to learn this, which can be found below:

Guided Reading: We started a new book linked to our project, ‘Journey to the River Sea’ by Eva Ibbotson. We predicted what we thought the book would be about from various covers, described the main character and developed our retrieval and recording of information.

Maths: We started learning about column addition, including reviewing the composition of 3-digit numbers and using the expanded written method for 2- and 3-digit numbers. If you would like to consolidate learning, this week’s worksheets can be found here: Maths Worksheets Au2 W1

STEM: In STEM, we started our new unit on plants, and we learnt about the parts of a plant and tree and their functions.

Art: In art, we learnt about Paul Cezanne, a French artist who drew landscapes. We used these as inspiration for our landscape paintings of grassland, a type of biome. The paintings look great and we learnt lots about Cezanne and how he chose to paint with lots of dabbing strokes.

Next week:

English: In English, we will start to learn about portal stories, which we will be writing this half term, linking to our biome project.

Maths: We will continue learning about addition.

Guided reading: We are continuing reading ‘Journey to the River Sea’ by Eva Ibbotson, progressing onto chapter 2 and focusing on comparing characters and retrieving information. Next week’s reading can be found here: Guided Reading Chapter 2
